Short description: The cycle contains 20 emblems and is printed together with author's another work, Scriptorum seu togae et belli notationum fragmenta. The greek word peristromata means blankets. Icons pursue this convention, developing since 1640s (fringes and needles which hold a blanket on the wall might be seen on the reproduction). The emblems include icons with latin inscriptions and subscriptions. Succeeding compositions present variuos qualities of a good ruler, altogether creating such person's speculum. The collection is considered one of most important in polish emblematics.

The second edition (Frankfurt 1685) is based on editio princeps and also conatins Fredro's mentioned work. The majority of the engravings was sculpted probably by A. Cloutier.
